As noted on my blog, our oldest brother passed away on 11 May 2008. Valley Auctioneers of Tupelo, Mississippi will be holding an estate sale to sell off the furniture and various items that remain in our brother's house.
The following items are just the more notable items that will be included in the auction. Click on a thumbnail picture to view a larger image. Click on that image to go larger still. Antiques – I use this term loosely for “old stuff.” Items include an old Zenith cabinet radio, an old upright cabinet record player, railroad telegraph insulators and a Griswold cast iron waffle maker.
Vehicles – The vehicles to be sold are a 1976 Corvette, a 1942 Willys Jeep, an old (not sure what year) Ferguson farm tractor and a recent Craftsman lawn tractor. All vehicles need some work. The interior of the Corvette has been gutted but all parts (seats, interior panels, etc.) are present (we think) and are to be included with the car. The Jeep has a brake line leak but is otherwise drivable. The Ferguson tractor was running but we don't know why our brother parked it. The Craftsman lawn tractor runs but burns some oil.
Cookware – Our brother enjoyed using Griswold cast iron for cooking and accumulated a number of pieces. Other items include a Cuisinart food processor, Kitchenaid mixer, crock pot, toaster, toaster over, two mixers (one hand, one fixed), numerous “Ultrex” non-stick pots and pans, lots of heartstone bakeware and miscellaneous items. There is also a large number of Mason canning jars and canning supplies.
Furniture – Furniture includes a king sized bed and two double beds as well as numerous dressers, a kitchen table and chairs, several wing back chairs, a coffee table, two end tables, a rocking chair, two couches (one that reclines), an oak filing cabinet and chair, an oak curio cabinet, several small desks/tables and several book cases and a couple of large display cases.
Glassware – Two chandeliers (one is Fenton, not sure of the other), several decorative oil and electric lamps, a set of Fostoria goblets, Fostoria coinware salt and pepper shakers, B&O railroad commemorative glasses, U.S. Navy china from when our brother was in the Navy, assorted mugs, beer steins, glasses, etc.
Railroad – Our brother was fascinated with railroads and so had a large collection of railroad photographs and art prints. Other items include a conductor's step stool, an antique (this time I really mean it) scale, some lanterns, telegraph wire insulators and other collectible items (e.g., Pennsylvania Railroad playing cards).
Tools – There is a table saw as well as a large number of power hand tools and wrenches, saws, screwdrivers, pliers, etc.
Miscellaneous – Things that didn't “fit” into one of the above categories include a pot bellied stove and a wood burning stove, lots of books primarily on World War II (WWII), a video collection include both VHS and betamax videos, and several consumer electronics items such as a large receiver/amp, reel-to-reel tape player, DVD, large screen TV, two very large stereo speakers.
